by WNAM:

ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT): Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Anh Tuan recently shared his insights on the growing trade relationship between Vietnam and Pakistan. He emphasized that opportunities for enhanced bilateral trade and investment between the two countries are multifaceted and substantial.

The ambassador noted that both countries have identified key sectors for cooperation, including textiles, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, information technology, and energy. Vietnam appreciates Pakistan as the 14th largest fiber supplier and wishes to expand imports of cotton, fabric, and raw materials. Pakistan can benefit from Vietnam’s expertise in agriculture, while Vietnam is interested in importing Pakistani rice.

The ambassador highlighted that both Prime Ministers have agreed on an ambitious target of $10 billion in bilateral trade in the coming years, significantly higher than current levels. This partnership envisions sustained growth in bilateral trade, enhanced investment flows, technology transfer, and collaborative industrial development.

Vietnam officially submitted a draft Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) on July 8, 2025, with a list of over 80 key export items requesting Pakistan to consider reducing tariffs to 0-5%. Pakistan has welcomed Vietnam’s initiative and pledged to study and conduct negotiations in 2025.

The 5th Meeting of the Pakistan-Vietnam Joint Trade Committee (JTC) was held in Hanoi on July 11, 2025, marking a pivotal achievement in bilateral relations. The JTC serves as a cornerstone for systematic cooperation and provides a structured mechanism for regular dialogue.
