The country has an Interdepartmental Commission on Caspian Sea Issues, which includes the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance and Economy, Environmental Protection and its structural division “Turkmenhydromet”, the Institute of the Caspian Sea and other departments.
A national Caspian action plan was also adopted and several regulatory documents were introduced.
Mandatory environmental insurance is in effect for industrial facilities throughout Turkmenistan; the work of fuel and energy complex enterprises is controlled by the Environmental Control Service, and within the Caspian Sea by the specialized division “Khazarekontrol”.
Today, a scientific and practical conference “The Caspian Sea – a Sea of Friendship and Peace” begins in Turkmenistan, dedicated to the Caspian Sea Day. In addition, the country will host events in support of cooperation in the Caspian and the preservation of the marine environment.
