ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT): A six-member Indonesian mountaineering team has etched its name in history by becoming the first Asian climbers to conquer the formidable Trango Towers in Skardu, Pakistan. This remarkable achievement, undertaken as part of Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations has not only showcased the team’s exceptional mountaineering skills but also symbolized the strong bilateral relationship between Pakistan and Indonesia.
Led by Faredin Simbareng, the team braved the treacherous terrain and overcame severe challenges, including injuries, to reach the summit of the 6,251-foot vertical rock complex. The team’s determination and perseverance paid off, and their successful ascent has been hailed as a milestone in strengthening cultural and people-to-people relations between the two nations.
Indonesian Chargé d’Affaires Rahmat Hendar Yarta highlighted the significance of this achievement, stating that “Conquering the Towers symbolizes the strong bilateral relationship” between Pakistan and Indonesia. He also emphasized the potential for mutual exchange in adventure sports, noting that Indonesia excels in sport climbing while Pakistan offers world-class mountaineering experiences.
The Chargé d’Affaires also pointed out the growing ties between the two nations, mentioning that Pakistan is the largest recipient of Indonesian educational scholarships. He added that over 14,261 Pakistani tourists were granted visas to Indonesia in 2023, demonstrating the increasing interest in cultural exchange between the two countries.
=The Indonesian team’s achievement is expected to further strengthen the bonds between Pakistan and Indonesia, with the team expressing their intent to return to Pakistan next year for another mountaineering mission.
