WNAM REPORT: Uzbekistan is considering the possibility of purchasing ships from Turkmenistan for transportation across the Caspian Sea.

The possibility of purchasing ships from a shipyard in Turkmenistan is already being discussed by the Uzbek side , citing the words of Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov in an interview with the channel.

As Ilkhom Makhkamov stated, own ferries will speed up the transfer of goods across the Caspian Sea and reduce traffic congestion, which can reach 30-40 days. The minister also reported on agreements with Turkmen colleagues in the field of shipbuilding: he and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Memmetkhan Chakyev signed a memorandum of understanding on the development of cooperation in the field of shipbuilding.

“We agreed that we will analyze, we will consider the issue of acquiring ships. It is necessary to work out all the technical issues, but the document will allow us to freely work out all these technical and economic issues,” Makhkamov said.

Let us recall that following the trilateral summit between Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, a number of documents were signed , including memorandums in the field of transport and logistics cooperation.
