As a law-abiding citizen of Pakistan, I pay my heartfelt tribute to the courageous officials of the Crime Control Department (CCD) of Punjab Police for their bold and decisive action against the suspects involved in the brutal murder of two young brothers in the Raiwind area of Lahore. Their bravery and swift response have not only delivered justice to the bereaved family but also restored some hope among the citizens who have long been disappointed by the failures of our judicial system.
In our country, one of the gravest challenges is the slow and ineffective judicial process. Justice delayed is justice denied, and sadly, countless victims and their families are left to suffer for years, waiting for their cases to conclude. Even when a culprit is sentenced, the lack of proper implementation of punishments makes the system appear toothless. This situation emboldens criminals and discourages victims from pursuing justice.
It is in this context that the actions of the CCD deserve admiration. Their commitment to delivering on-the-spot justice sends a strong message that heinous crimes will not be tolerated. In times when the state’s institutions appear weak, such decisive steps by law enforcement not only deter criminals but also assure the public that their lives and safety matter.
I strongly urge the Government of Pakistan to restore the death penalty in full force across the country. Abolishing heinous crimes such as murders, robberies, kidnappings for ransom, sexual violence, and terrorism requires exemplary punishments that are swift, certain, and publicly enforced. Merely awarding death sentences on paper is not enough; strict implementation is the real key to deterrence.
We are witnessing a dangerous rise in violent crimes across Pakistan. The people are living in fear, and criminal gangs feel emboldened. The only effective solution, in my view, lies in adopting the model demonstrated by Punjab Police’s CCD. Their courage and swift justice must be emulated in all provinces if we truly wish to curb crime and restore peace in society.
It is time to recognize that Pakistan cannot afford the luxury of a dysfunctional justice system any longer. The safety of our citizens and the honor of our nation depend on ensuring that criminals face quick and certain justice. On-the-spot justice, coupled with a strong implementation of death sentences, is the need of the hour. ( The writer is: Managing Editor at ‘The World News AM’)
