Jose Mujika who remained President of Uruguay between 2010 and 2015 will go down in history books as the poorest President, the world has ever seen. Not that he could not make money or live in style like many other Presidents in the world since time immemorial who had made full use of government kitty to live a luxurious life at state’s expense. To those who criticised his living style he would say I don’t understand what wrong has been done by me. I live exactly the way a big majority of my countrymen live. I abhor living like a tiny minority of my country who roll in pelf.
He used to donate 90 percent of his pay to the charities. He drove a 1987 model old beetle Volkswagen and had kept a three legged dog. When once a handsome amount was offered to him for purchase of his car he refused selling it saying if I sold it I would not be able to carry my three legged dog outside.
