TASHKENT ( WNAM MONIUORING ): The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the Second World Summit for Social Development, held in Doha.

The forum was also attended by the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the President of the UN General Assembly Annalena Baerbock, the President of the UN Economic and Social Council Lok Bahadur Thapa, as well as heads of state and government, and representatives of international and regional organizations.

The President of Uzbekistan expressed gratitude to the organizers for the high level of preparation and emphasized that holding the summit, an important platform for global social development, in Doha carries great symbolic significance.

The Head of State noted that in recent years Qatar has become a global center of social inclusivity and dynamic progress, and sincerely congratulated the people of this country on their achievements.

The President emphasized that today, the international community and national governments are working together to ensure social well-being and improve living standards. Uzbekistan, for its part, consistently supports all international cooperation formats and initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development.

In recent years, the New Uzbekistan has been actively building a social state based on the principle “In the name of human honor and dignity”, ensuring social justice and effectively protecting vulnerable segments of the population.

“Over the past few years, we have managed to reduce the poverty level from 35 percent to 6.6 percent. We will continue reforms in this direction”, the President stated.

The Head of State put forward several proposals and initiatives to strengthen global social justice and sustainable development.

The importance of elevating international cooperation in the fight against poverty to a new level was emphasized.

“We believe the time has come to establish a new financial architecture for combating poverty, which will channel resources into social programs in developing countries”, the President stated.

In this regard, it was proposed to establish a Global Fund for Social Justice to provide practical support for reducing poverty and social inequality.

The Head of State also stressed the importance of introducing modern mechanisms for effectively addressing employment issues.

It was noted that the rapid development of advanced technologies and artificial intelligence is leading to the loss of millions of jobs worldwide. Under these circumstances, active cooperation among the state, business, and society to support workers and strengthen the principles of social partnership becomes particularly important.

The President expressed hope for support of the initiative to develop a Global Initiative on Social Responsibility and Decent Work.

He emphasized that expanding education access for all is one of the most effective ways to address social issues.

According to expert estimates, the annual economic damage caused by illiteracy amounts to $1.4 trillion. This, the President noted, complicates young people’s efforts to find their place in society and the labor market, while also exacerbating social inequality.

The Head of State affirmed that Uzbekistan fully supports the decisions adopted at the first meeting of the Global Alliance to Combat Hunger and Poverty, held the day before.

He proposed hosting one of the Alliance’s future summits in Uzbekistan, with education issues as the main agenda item.

Special attention was given to the need for systematic protection of labor migrants and their families.

Uzbekistan, together with the International Labour Organization and the International Organization for Migration, is prepared to hold an International Forum in Tashkent on the social and legal protection of migrants and their families, and to adopt a Global Program in this area.

The President noted that the impact of climate change on social life is increasingly being felt. Extreme weather events, desertification, and biodiversity loss primarily affect vulnerable populations – farmers, seasonal workers, and residents of environmentally disadvantaged regions.

He emphasized the need for comprehensive measures to integrate climate action with employment programs.

The Head of State announced that Uzbekistan intends to launch a new socio-economic development model for the Aral Sea region, which has been designated a zone of ecological innovation and technology by the United Nations. He expressed readiness to share this experience with the global community.

Confidence was expressed that the decisions adopted at the summit will inspire millions of people around the world, instilling faith and hope, and will make a significant contribution to ensuring stability and prosperity.

“Our primary duty is to restore social harmony in the path of international development and to create a decent standard of living for every individual”, the Head of State stated.

In conclusion, the President of Uzbekistan reaffirmed full support for the Doha Political Declaration adopted at the summit and the country’s readiness to ensure the practical implementation of all its principles.
