RUSSIA (WNAM MONITORING): The Russian and Iranian foreign ministers on Wednesday praised Afghanistan and Pakistan for reaching a ceasefire agreement mediated by Qatar and Türkiye.

Sergey Lavrov and Abbas Araghchi expressed optimism during their phone conversation that both sides would maintain the ceasefire and put an end to firing incidents along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“They called for continuing the dialogue between the two friendly nations so that they can resolve their differences by political and diplomatic means for ensuring regional stability and security,” it said.

According to the statement, the two diplomats also discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, focusing on the Palestinian-Israeli settlement and the way this topic has been treated within the UN Security Council.

“They also discussed this situation within the IAEA Board of Governors, where France, the UK, and Germany have been seeking to launch an anti-Iranian campaign,” it said.

The ministers also exchanged views on specific aspects of the bilateral agenda and reaffirmed their shared commitment to fully implementing the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and Iran, which went into effect on October 2.
