RIYADH ( WNAM MONITORING): The Saudi aid agency KSrelief is continuing to make an impact by providing critical assistance to some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.

The body, in cooperation with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization, recently launched a project to distribute 500 tonnes of dates to Palestinian refugees and host communities in Jordan.

Its launch was attended by Saudi Deputy Ambassador to Jordan Mohammed bin Hassan Mones, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday.

Naif Al-Shammari, the director of KSrelief’s Jordan branch, said that the project aimed to enhance food security and improve living conditions of targeted groups.

He added that the dates would be distributed through approved partners to ensure the aid reached beneficiaries.

Hussein Al-Shibli, the secretary-general of the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization, said that 2,000 tonnes of dates were distributed last year — benefiting 1,512,000 individuals across all governorates — and praised the strong fraternal ties between Jordan and Saudi Arabia in humanitarian work.

Meanwhile, KSrelief has distributed cartons of dates to 1,157 families in Damascus and food baskets to 800 families in Deir Ez-Zor to support inhabitants of the Syrian Arab Republic in need.

The Saudi aid agency has distributed food baskets to 530 families in Khartoum, Sudan, while 440 baskets have been provided in Afghanistan’s Baghlan Province, benefiting 2,640.

KSrelief has also distributed food baskets to 1,000 families in Burkina Faso, helping 6,000 people, and given more than 1,500 food baskets and cartons of dates to Syrian refugees and host communities in Tripoli, Lebanon, benefiting 3,785 people.

KSrelief has implemented 3,814 projects in 109 countries at a total cost of more than $8.2 billion since its establishment in 2015.

Its efforts span key sectors including food security, health, education, water and sanitation, shelter and early recovery.

The agency also works with UN bodies and international relief organizations to empower vulnerable communities and promote sustainable development.
