WNAM REPORT: The Afghan government on Saturday responded to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ call for an inclusive government in Kabul, and said certain issues in the country remain “internal matters,” according to local media.
Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, responding to the UN chief’s statement, said the interests of the people of Afghanistan are protected under the current system, according to local media outlet Tolo News.
“Afghanistan previously had many deals and compromises, disputes existed, but there was no security, no stability, and people are in great need of security and peace,” he said.
Tolo News quoted Mujahid as saying that the issues remain the country’s own “internal matters.”
On Thursday, Guterres emphasized the need for an inclusive government as a foundational step toward lasting peace in Afghanistan.
“We remain totally committed to four essential objectives in Afghanistan. First, to make sure that the Afghan institutions are really inclusive and that all ethnic groups are represented and all sectors of society are represented. We consider that a basic condition for the consolidation of peace,” he told reporters during a news conference.
