The tug of war between disease and medicine continues unabated. It has been going on since times immemorial. Time was when malaria was a killer disease. The undisputed king of half of the world , Alexander could not defeat it and he succumbed to it. After the discovery of quinine by the pharmacists malaria was controlled. There was a time when tuberculosis was incurable but thanks to the researchers who discovered its panacea in the form of penicillin, TB became curable. Not long ago people died of heart ailments daily by the dozens but with open heart surgery the incidence of deaths due to heart diseases has fallen down considerably. Cancer is the disease which hitherto is incurable. Chemo therapy no doubt is its panacea but too much doses of it damages kidneys and liver beyond repair.
