BAKU ( WNAM MONITORING): Azerbaijan’s membership in D-8 has given new momentum to the organization’s activities, D-8 Secretary General Sohail Mahmood told.
He touched on the importance for the organization of establishing the D-8 Media Excellence Center and the D-8 Transport Excellence Center in Azerbaijan.
“We are truly grateful for the visionary leadership demonstrated by President Ilham Aliyev. Under this leadership, the Azerbaijani government and official institutions have worked hard to make very valuable contributions to the work of D-8,” Mahmood said.
The secretary general noted that he was taking part in the Shusha Global Media Forum for the first time.
“There is very broad participation from different parts of the world, and the theme chosen for this forum is also very important: what role truth and trust can play, or do play, in establishing peace. Over the past four years, with this forum being held regularly in Shusha, a very strong platform for dialogue has been formed,” he said.
Mahmood said that in the future, the forum would continue to contribute to strengthening this dialogue, increasing mutual understanding, and informing international audiences about Azerbaijan’s role and position in the region and the world.
He noted that when participants arrived in Shusha, they witnessed the reconstruction work being carried out there, efforts to revive the region’s economy, the creation of high-quality infrastructure and the restoration of cultural traditions.
