Jakarta ( WNAM MONITORING): – Indonesia and Thailand have set a target to increase bilateral trade to US$20 billion by 2030 through strengthened strategic partnerships across the economic, energy, and agricultural sectors.

The target was announced by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during a joint press statement with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday.

“Economic cooperation remains a key pillar of our bilateral relationship. We are optimistic that the trade target of US$20 billion by 2030 can be achieved through the implementation of the strategic partnership roadmap,” Prabowo said.

To achieve the target, both leaders formally adopted the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026–2030, a comprehensive framework designed to expand market access, increase joint investment, and reduce trade barriers.

The framework builds on commitments made during the May 2026 ASEAN Summit in Cebu, the Philippines.

As part of the roadmap, both countries will establish a Joint Trade Commission, the first bilateral trade mechanism between Indonesia and Thailand, to address trade barriers and unlock new business opportunities.

The strategic alignment between the two Southeast Asian nations covers several high-priority economic sectors, beginning with a shared commitment to food and agriculture.

By combining their expertise, Indonesia and Thailand aim to strengthen regional food security through joint initiatives in advanced agricultural technology, supply chain resilience, and integrated logistics networks, according to Prabowo.

Additionally, the two countries plan to leverage their respective strengths in the halal sector to develop integrated value chains for regional and global markets. Beyond agriculture, the partnership also focuses on energy security and the digital economy.

The leaders announced the launch of the Indonesia-Thailand Energy Forum, a platform designed to accelerate sustainable energy transitions while strengthening energy grid resilience across the region.

Both governments are also seeking to expand Local Currency Transaction (LCT) frameworks, a move aimed at reducing exchange-rate volatility and improving efficiency in cross-border trade transactions.

Prime Minister Anutin highlighted that the combined population of around 350 million people represents significant potential for commercial growth and market expansion.

“We agree that Thailand and Indonesia have significant potential to increase the volume of bilateral trade and investment,” Anutin said.
