WNAM REPORT: A three-day Content Development Workshop has commenced at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) with the aim of developing high-quality, effective and modern teaching materials for the university’s academic programmes and enhancing the professional capacity of faculty members.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood said that faculty professional development is the key to improving educational quality. He said that quality educational content holds fundamental importance in the open and distance learning system. Therefore, it is essential to develop effective and high-quality teaching materials by keeping in view students’ needs, academic priorities and modern teaching requirements.
He further said that continuous training of teachers, awareness of modern teaching methodologies and enhancement of professional skills play an important role in further improving the university’s academic standards.
The workshop has been organized by the Centre for Lifelong Learning. Director of the Centre, Dr. Tooba Saleem while highlighting the objectives of the workshop said that the training activity aims to familiarize faculty members with modern techniques of developing quality teaching materials, unit development and effective academic writing.
She said that participants are being provided with practical and technical knowledge regarding the preparation of teaching materials so that content can be developed for the university’s academic programmes that is useful, comprehensive and aligned with contemporary educational requirements.
JICA representative Abid Gul said that quality educational content plays a fundamental role in the success of the distance learning system. Appreciating the organization of the workshop, he said that such training activities help enhance the professional competencies of faculty members, improve teaching quality and facilitate the development of educational content in accordance with modern requirements.
On the first day of the workshop, participants were introduced to course outlines, unit assignments and unit writing guidelines. Practical exercises were also conducted on the development of content for different units and finalization of the complete unit structure.
The participants actively engaged in various stages of unit writing and worked on the fundamental principles and practical requirements essential for developing high-quality teaching materials.
It is pertinent to mention that the workshop is an important component of the ongoing training initiatives at Allama Iqbal Open University aimed at enhancing the professional capacity of faculty members, bringing teaching standards in line with contemporary requirements and developing high-quality educational content.
