WNAM REPORT: Indonesia’s Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin hosted his counterpart from Sudan, Lt. General Hassan Daoud Kabroun Kayan, at the Indonesia Defense Ministry Office in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Sjamsoeddin welcomed Kayan upon his arrival at 10:31 a.m. Jakarta time before the two proceeded to a ceremonial platform for the rendition of the national anthems of Indonesia and Sudan. They then inspected troops and saluted Indonesian heroes.
At the time of writing, both ministers remained engaged in a closed-door meeting.
Minister Sjamsoeddin previously received a courtesy call from Sudanese Ambassador to Indonesia Yassir Mohamed Ali on April 21, 2026, to explore avenues for bilataral cooperation in defense and military technology.
On the occasion, both officials highlighted the potential for Indonesia and Sudan to pursue joint initiatives aimed at improving human resource quality, including military education programmes.

Ali also gave an interview with ANTARA on November 5, 2025, noting the Sudanese government’s keenness to foster a strategic partnership with Indonesia to pave the way for expanded mutually beneficial collaborative schemes.
He pointed to the two countries’ comparative and complementary advantages in natural resources.
“When we talk about minerals, Sudan is a very rich country. So, we can have a sort of strategic partnership together,” the envoy told ANTARA.
Ali acknowledged Indonesia and Sudan lack strong government-to-government ties and recorded a trade value of less than US$50 million due to the ongoing war in Sudan.
Against that backdrop, he emphasised the importance of both countries moving toward building a stronger partnership, expressing confidence that their trade value has the potential to reach billions of dollars.
