The maiden address to her parliamentary party members in the Panjab assembly the other day by the first ever woman Chief Minister-designate of Panjab Maryam Nawaz was quite impressive. Pinpointing the areas of the province needing urgent developmental works she gave a road map to her audience for their execution. An in-depth analysis of the contents of her address waxed eloquent of the fact that she was fully abreast of the main issues of the province she has been destined to govern for the next five years She will, however, require a dedicated and able team of ministers and civil servants for enabling her to see through her next five years in the corridors of power. The main issue that she would be confronted with is lack of good governance She should not forget that the man in the street today is politically very conscious as never before ,therefore, no leader can take him to the cleaners now by glib talk If she won’t deliver on her promises made with the electorate at the hustings and wavered in the implementation of her road map that would be suicidal for her political career She had better give her priority attention to the maintenance of law and order of Panjab .
No sooner had Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani been tipped as next chairman of the senate than he announced that his son would contest NA seat he was resigning from in the bye elections.
Many political observers ask, Was there nobody else in the rank and file of the PPP in Multan capable and fit enough to contest NA seat that fell vacant due to selection of Yousaf Raza Gilani as chairman Senate that he has managed his party ticket of NA seat vacated by him for his son ? Shouldn’t the new government on assumption of power carry out electoral reforms finishing dynastic politics in the intra party elections
The JI, it seems is going out on a limb in the political set up of the country as there is hell of difference among the temperament of its leaders and leaders of the other parties.
There are some prerequisites for running a parliamentary democracy First there should not be more than two or utmost three political parties in the political arena, nothing more, nothing less.
