TEHRAN: The acting Iranian president Mohammad Mokhber thanked the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia for the message of condolence over martyrdom of president Ebrahim Raeisi, stressing to continue cordial Tehran-Riyadh ties.

The caretaker Iranian president Mohammad Mokhber received a phone call from Mohammed bin Salman, during which the Saudi Crown Prince offered condolences on the martyrdom of President Ebrahim Raeisi and his companions in the last Sunday helicopter crash.

Emphasizing the importance of the development of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia for the region and the Islamic world, bin Salman said that “Tehran and Riyadh play a pivotal role in the region and the Islamic world, and by expanding relations between them, they can create a bright future for the region.”

The Saudi Crown Prince further announced his country’s readiness to expand economic relations with Iran.

Mokhber, in turn, considered the development of relations with neighbors and friendly countries among the successes and important strategies of Ayatollah Raeisi and said “It is difficult for us to lose a popular and hard-working president like Mr. Raeisi, but the country’s movement will not change and the same spirit of interest and confidence among Iran and Saudi Arabia will continue as in the era of the martyred president.”

The caretaker president emphasized that, “The continuation of the 13th government’s neighborhood policy and the development of relations with the countries of the region is the only option before all of us, as companionship and empathy with each other is a guarantee of stability and prosperity in the region.”

He called the relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia key for the Islamic world adding that, “Despite the opposition of some powers, today our relations have reached a good level and the region is in dire need of expanding these relations.

The interim Iranian president also said that the two countries need support, promote and stabilize these political relations by increasing economic interactions and removing obstacles, especially for the private sectors of the two countries, and meeting mutual needs of each other.

At the end of the phone conversation, the two sides exchanged invitations to visit each other’s countries.
