Yogyakarta: Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has informed that the construction of the presidential palace and several government buildings in Indonesia’s new capital Nusantara will be completed in July 2024.

“Inshallah (God willing), we will complete the palace, president’s office, coordinating ministers’ offices, ministers’ houses, and 12 civil servants’ residential towers in July,” he said here on Friday.

According to him, the progress of the construction of the presidential palace and government buildings, including the civil servants’ residential towers, has so far reached 82 percent.

“Later, on July 20, the results will be visible. Currently, the completion has reached 82 percent,” he said.

Meanwhile, the transfer of civil servants to the new capital will be carried out in stages after August, he informed.

“In August, the facilities will be used for the Indonesian Independence Day ceremony. Of course, it (the transfer) is (being) carried out in stages, in accordance with the infrastructure readiness,” he stated.

Earlier, Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy said that the 79th Independence Day anniversary ceremony on August 17, 2024, will be held in Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara, and the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

According to Effendy, the ceremony in Nusantara, East Kalimantan, will be led directly by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), accompanied by President-elect Prabowo Subianto.

Meanwhile, the ceremony in Jakarta will be led by Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, accompanied by Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

President Widodo said that the Independence Day anniversary commemoration will be held in two locations because currently, Indonesia is in the transition period of the capital relocation from Jakarta to Nusantara.

He added that after the presidential decree on the relocation of the capital city is issued, the 2025 Independence Day ceremony will be held in Nusantara.
