ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT ) : Wafaqi Mohtasib, Mr. Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, has said that with a view to providing better health facilities to the residents of the Federal Capital, the ongoing Poly Clinic-II project in Sector G-11 should be completed till 2026 as per the original time frame. He also instructed that 353 vacancies of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff may be filled within the next three months and every effort may be made to improve the quality of services at the 29 dispensaries currently functioning under the Poly Clinic Hospital.
He also directed that the MRI machine imported from Japan may be made functional till November this year. He said that strict disciplinary action may be initiated against the doctors and medical staff found absent from duty during the office hours. He further directed that the ENT machine which have been lying non-functional for the last four years may be utilized for treatment of the patients. He also observed that a comprehensive plan may be prepared for procurement and distribution of drugs and medicines in the Hospital.
The Wafaqi Mohtasib has given these instructions after receiving the report of the Inspection Team which undertook visit to the Poly Clinic Hospital recently. It may be pointed out that the Wafaqi Mohtasib constituted an inspection team to undertake visit of the said Hospital on receipt of numerous complaints of mal-administration and mismanagement at the main hospital of the Federal Capital. An inspection team headed by Senior Advisor, Ahmad Farooq along with Registrar, Muhammad Saqib Khan and Consultant, Khalid Sial, undertook visit to the said hospital in order to look into such complaints. It also interacted with the patients present there in order to apprise themselves of the true magnitude of their problems.
It may be informed that when the Inspection Team reached the Hospital only one clerk was present at the main reception counter and there was a great rush of patients at the hospital and a lot patients were waiting at the reception counter to get themselves registered. The other clerk who was supposed to be on duty was away in connection with his personal chores.
It was also found that the doctors and medical staff at the Urology department were busy enjoying pizza during office hours bolting the door from inside and the patients were waiting outside in sweltering heat. The Inspection Team directed that there should be at least three counters at the main reception to handle the growing number of patients.
The nurses working in the hospital gathered in large number when they became aware of the visit of the Inspection Team to air their grievances. The Inspection Team listened to their grievances and passed instructions on the spot to the administration for their prompt redressal. It also instructed that nurses on duty may be given the first priority while granting honorarium to the staff members.
The Inspection Team was later informed during a briefing that a 400 bed hospital is currently being constructed in Sector G-11 of the Federal Capital under the Poly Clinic-II project. The Inspection Team directed that the time frame must be followed and every effort should be made to complete the hospital within the stipulated time frame i.e. 2026.
A female diabetic patient, interacting with the Inspection Team informed that she has not been getting her necessary medicine for the last one and a half months nor her tests being conducted. Many other patients also pointed out irregularities and lack of provision and availability of medicines at the hospital. Responding to such complaints, the Inspection Team directed the hospital administration to put its house in order and also instructed that details of the procurement and distribution of medicines may be provided to the Inspection Team without delay.
