Jakarta:  President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called for strengthened global collaboration in agriculture and livestock to curb the negative impacts of climate change.

Jokowi made his remarks during the Leaders’ Event of the 28th Conference of the Parties(COP28) in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to a statement from the Coordinating Ministry For Economic Affairs on Monday.

He expressed his belief that agricultural and livestock products could produce eco-friendly energy.

Jokowi affirmed Indonesia’s support for the UAE’s initiative to promote international collaboration that revolves around sustainable agriculture, supply chains, resilience, and climate actions.

He expressed hope that the initiative would yield concrete results for the sake of creating a more prosperous world.

Jokowi used the opportunity to outline several measures taken by the government in the efforts to reduce carbon emissions while reiterating Indonesia’s commitment to improving the management of the forest and other land use sectors.

Indonesia boasts a vast area of fertile lands and a large number of people belonging to the productive age bracket, reaching 30 percent of the total populace, he highlighted.

He remarked that most Indonesians make a living off the agriculture sector, with support of the government’s steadfast efforts to develop infrastructure that connects regions on a massive scale.

“Those potentials can be utilized to improve the welfare of farmers at all scales of business, with the support of sufficient financing and transfer of advanced technology. This will enable us to supply (agricultural products) to meet the global needs,” Jokowi stated.

At the event that drew participation from delegates from 134 countries, Indonesia also endorsed for the Emirates Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, Resilient Food System, and Climate Action.
