WNAM REPORT: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said it was time to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip and called on all parties to reach an agreement.
“Now is the time to end the horrific war in Gaza, starting with an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages. “This is the right time for all parties to show the political courage and political will to finally reach an agreement,” Guterres wrote in X.
US President Joe Biden said Friday that Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas have agreed to a framework for a ceasefire in Gaza.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a large-scale rocket attack on Israel and breached the border, attacking civilian neighborhoods and military bases. Nearly 1,200 people in Israel were killed and about 240 others kidnapped in the attack.
Israel then launched a retaliatory attack, ordering a total blockade of Gaza, and began a ground offensive into the Palestinian enclave with the aim of eliminating Hamas fighters and rescuing hostages.
The retaliatory attack has killed 38,345 people in the Gaza Strip since then, while 88,200 have been injured, according to estimates by the Palestinian enclave’s health ministry.
