WNAM MONITORING: The All-New Kona Electric, locally manufactured, is set to make its debut at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2024 from July 18-28. Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) opened preorders in early June 2024, and so far, 360 units have been reserved by Indonesian customers.
Chief Operating Officer (COO) of HMID Fransiscus Soerjopranoto said that the All-New Kona Electric will be Hyundai’s first electric vehicle using locally produced batteries. Since its introduction at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2024, the All-New Kona Electric has received positive feedback from various groups.
“Several customers have pre-booked with us. I don’t remember the exact number, but it’s around 360 people. Of course, we always want more, but the main goal of pre-booking is to study the market and see if the product is well-received despite the price not being announced yet,” he said at the Media First Impressions of The All-New Kona Electric event in Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2, Tangerang, Banten, on Friday.
Soerjopranoto added that the All-New Kona Electric will be Hyundai’s second locally assembled electric car in Indonesia, following the Ioniq 5. The vehicle also uses locally produced batteries, making it more affordable compared to other models. This ensures that the local content requirement meets the government’s minimum of 60 percent for 2024.
The estimated price is around Rp 500 million. There will be five variants, which we will introduce at GIIAS 2024. Stay tuned for a surprise regarding the price at GIIAS,” he said.
According to previous specifications, the All-New Kona Electric will fall within the compact SUV segment, measuring 4,350 millimeters in length, 1,825 millimeters in width, 1,575/1,580 millimeters in height, and featuring a wheelbase of 2,660 millimeters. The top-tier version of the Kona Electric will be equipped with a 64.8 Kilowatt Hour (kWh) battery, offering a range of up to 420 kilometers on a full charge.
