WNAM REPORT: A record number of mudflows was registered in 2024. The Director of the Department for Monitoring and Forecasting Emergency Situations at the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan Daurbek Sakyev announced at a press conference.
According to him, over 300 cases of mudflows have been registered.
«This is the largest number over the past 30 years. Scientists and experts say that there are short-term cycles — seven and 30 years. It turns out that the 30-year cycle has repeated,» Daurbek Sakyev said.
He added that the Ministry of Emergency Situations always conducts research, monitoring, and takes measures.
Mudflows hit the villages of Osh region and Osh city on July 14 as a result of intense precipitations. It was reported that mudflows swept away four people. All of them are members of the same family. Later, the body of a 7-year-old girl was found in Uzbekistan. In addition, a man died during the evacuation of the population. He was hit by a truck. A total of 30 people sought help at the hospital. On July 15, the body of a woman, who went missing after mudflows, was found in Ak-Buura river, and the bodies of two sisters were also found in Uzbekistan.
Mudflows were also registered on July 23 in Arstanbap village, Jalal-Abad region. They washed away the internal roads and demolished light structures.
