WNAM REPORT: New Zealand and Malaysia released a joint statement on Monday to strengthen their relationship across defense and security, education, trade and people-to-people connections.
The two countries are committed to close cooperation on countering terrorism and combatting transnational organized crime, said a New Zealand government statement after New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon met with his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, in Malaysia.
The joint statement emphasized both countries’ commitment to the bilateral strategic partnership. The two countries are to review the Malaysia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement by removing unnecessary barriers to trade, increasing market access for each other’s products, and reducing transaction costs for exporters, it said.
Cooperation will be expanded in a range of areas including education, connections through youth and sport, and disaster management, it added.
