WNAM REPORT: As previously reported, the delegation led by the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan Sabine Machl visited Kashkadarya region.
The delegation members became familiar with the UNDP Project “Support for an inclusive transition to a green economy in the agro-food sector and the development of a climate-optimized system of knowledge and innovation in agriculture” (EU-AGRIN), funded by the European Union and implemented in the Southern Agricultural Research Institute jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
It should be noted that 5 projects will be implemented in the field within the framework of EU-AGRIN. They include projects on adapting the technology of growing new wheat varieties “Nasaf” and “Zilol” that meet the pasta industry requirements, introduction of new spring wheat varieties in arid regions and creation of seed production, cultivation of high-yielding pistachio varieties based on microclonal reproduction technology in vitro, organization of primary seed production of new medium-fiber cotton varieties SP-2602, corresponding to Kashkadarya region’s soil and climatic conditions, resistant to low water and dry winds, and fine-fiber variety “Kashkadarya-5”, biological control of the whitefly insect harmful to crops, which are implemented by the Cotton Breeding, Seeds Production and Agrotechnologies Research Institute in Kashkadarya region, Southern Agricultural Research Institute, Samarkand branch of the Research Institute of Quarantine and Plant Protection, and farms.
