WNAM REPORT: PT Surabaya Industrial Estate Rungkut (SIER) continues to cement its position as a leader in sustainable industrial estate management, and wins the prestigious ‘Outstanding Green Industrial for Sustainable Economic Growth’ award presented by CNN Indonesia.

The award underscores and highlights SIER’s dedication to creating environmentally friendly industrial zones that contribute to sustainable economic growth.

The prestigious accolade was accepted by Didik Prasetiyono, President Director of SIER, at the CNN Indonesia Award 2024, held at The Westin Surabaya on Wednesday (25/9).

The event was attended by prominent figures such as Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of BPN; Chairul Tanjung, Chairman of CT Corp and President Commissioner of CT Corp; Adhy Karyono, Acting Governor of East Java; and Khofifah Indar Parawansa, Governor of East Java from 2019 to 2024.

Also in attendance were Said Abdullah, Member of the Indonesian Parliament; Mia Amiati, Head of the East Java High Prosecutor’s Office; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, Rector of Airlangga University; Prof. Widodo, Rector of Brawijaya University; and Busrul Iman, CEO of Bank Jatim.

The CNN Indonesia Award 2024 Expert Council included Desi Anwar, Board of News Director of CNN Indonesia; Ike Agestu, Deputy Editor in Chief of CNN Indonesia; Niki Charles Laoh, Division Head of CNN Indonesia; and M Walid, CNN Indonesia’s East Java Bureau Chief.

After receiving the award, Didik Prasetiyono expressed his gratitude to CNN Indonesia and emphasized that the award is a result of the collective efforts of SIER’s employees, tenants, and investors, who have integrated sustainability principles into the operations of the industrial estate.

“This award is a recognition of our commitment and dedication to creating green industrial zones that not only respect the environment but also support sustainable economic growth. We will continue to innovate in energy management, waste treatment, and water usage to ensure the balance between industrial progress and environmental preservation,” said Didik.

Didik highlighted that SIER has pioneered several sustainable industrial estate initiatives supporting the transformation into green industrial zones, including integrated waste management systems.

One of SIER’s flagship innovations, according to Didik, is the establishment of the Sustainable Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST Lestari) at the Pasuruan Industrial Estate Rembang (PIER).

This facility applies the Zero Waste to Landfill concept, where no waste is sent to landfills. All waste is processed to be recycled, reused, or converted into energy through innovative technologies.

“The Zero Waste to Landfill concept reflects our commitment to creating a sustainable green industrial estate. Waste processed at the Lestari TPST is repurposed for economic value, such as Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), recycled plastics, organic fertilizers, and other recyclable goods, all supporting a circular economy,” Didik explained.

Furthermore, SIER has also implemented a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) program for wastewater management in its industrial zones. This program aims to ensure that all wastewater is treated using advanced technology to meet the quality standards required for reuse in industrial processes.

“With the ZLD program, we ensure that wastewater is managed responsibly, minimizing any negative environmental impact while allowing for reuse in various applications,” Didik added.

SIER continues to innovate in renewable energy use at its facilities, including the installation of solar panels that support clean energy consumption. Additionally, SIER has reduced its reliance on fossil fuels by increasing energy efficiency across its operations.

“The Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) available in the SIER area is also part of our efforts to support energy transformation toward electric vehicles and reduce carbon emissions,” said Didik.

SIER ensures that all solid and liquid waste generated in its industrial zones is managed effectively. The construction of Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP) allows SIER to comply with stringent standards for wastewater management, while modern technology ensures that wastewater is properly treated before being reused or released into the environment.

With the receipt of the ‘Outstanding Green Industrial for Sustainable Economic Growth’ award, SIER further solidifies its reputation as a leader in green industrial zones, committed not only to economic profitability but also to environmental and societal well-being.

Didik emphasized that this award reflects SIER’s philosophy of balancing business interests with environmental preservation.

“We believe that sustainable economic growth can only be achieved by maintaining a balance between business interests and environmental sustainability. Through innovation and technology, we will continue to contribute to a greener industrial future,” concluded Didik, who also serves as Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Industrial Estate Association (HKI).

On this occasion, Adhy Karyono, Acting Governor of East Java, congratulated SIER on the award.

He noted that the award was based on thorough and objective research.

“Hopefully, this recognition will serve as greater motivation for further advancing Indonesia,” he remarked.
