Beirut used to be billed as Paris of the Middle east once. Rich in nature’s scenic beauty it was flush with night clubs and all vices that go with them and was a favorite place for indulging in lasciviousness of oil rich Arab Sheikhs as well as debauch billionaires.
Small wonder when it became a victim of a long drawn out civil war back in 1980s in which the same combatants were active which we see today. Many religious chieftains were of the view that its inhabitants were being punished by the Almighty for their sins of omission and commission. A sizable population of Christians share this city with the Muslims.
After the Arab Israel war of 1960s the grandson of late Sir Winston Churchill had written a book billed as The six day war in which he had said Israel would extend its present frontiers which it considers unsafe for which it has been fortifying its defence. What a pity that the billionaire Arab Sheikhs instead of strengthening their armed forces squandered their money on purchase of costly villas in Europe and gambling in London Casinos with the result that they are not in a position to tame tiny Israel which is calling the shots in the middle east.
When would the Rulers of Muslim world give a wide berth to Washington instead of dancing to its tunes and fortify its armed forces ?
