Nobody would have questioned passing of any law authorizing parliamentarians to appoint judges for the apex court had they been honourable men in the strict sense of the word but experience of the hindsight reveals that most of them have a lot to live down.
Are they not notorious for horse trading? Did many of them not gobble up hefty bank loans getting them written off by using their political clout? Have they not indulged in nepotism? Every vice linked with crass materialism is linked with their name. It is in the evidence that not long ago a prime minister wanted that no Brigadier be promoted as Major General unless federal cabinet gives a green signal. The same PM had confided in one of his close political associate that he wants to see the then CJP in the police station’s lock up atleast for one night as he was fed up with him.
Now if appointments in key positions in the apex court is left to their sweet will one can well imagine the material which will run the highest judicial court in the country.
