Jakarta (WNAM MONITORING): Indonesia has strongly condemned Israel’s military strikes against Iran, describing them as violations of international law.
“Such escalation and expansion of conflicts are clear violations of international law and demonstrate Israel’s utter disregard for it,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on its official X account on Saturday.
The ministry called upon all parties to exercise maximum restraint and refrain from any actions that could escalate tensions and lead to further instability in the region.
Indonesia also reiterated that Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian territory remains the root cause of conflicts in the Middle East, and that the establishment of an independent State of Palestine—within the framework of the two-state solution—is the only way to bring peace to the region.
“Therefore, Indonesia urges the UNSC to assume its responsibility under the UN Charter to stop all hostilities committed by Israel as soon as possible, including acts of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and attacks against UNIFIL,” the Foreign Ministry said.
“Indonesia also underscores the need for the UNSC to consider further actions required to bring an end to the illegal occupation,” it added.
Early on Saturday, Israel carried out airstrikes on Iranian military facilities in retaliation for an October 1, 2024, missile attack.
Iran launched the missile attack in response to the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in July and the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut last month.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that based on the inherent right to legitimate defense, stated in Article 51 of the UN Charter, Iran has the right and obligation to defend itself against Israeli aggression.
The exchange of attacks between Israel and Iran escalated this year after Tel Aviv bombed the Iranian Embassy in Syria on April 1, killing a number of senior military officials.
Iran took self-defense measures two weeks later by launching hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles at Israel.
