WNAM MONITORING: The Donors’ Conference to Support Displaced Persons and Refugees in the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin was held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah.
The event was organized with the support of the Government of Saudi Arabia, OIC, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The conference brought together representatives from various countries and international and non-governmental organizations. Uzbekistan was represented by staff of its embassy in Saudi Arabia.
The participants discussed the critical humanitarian situation in the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin, where a humanitarian crisis has persisted for more than 10 years, affecting about 33 million people, including 11 million displaced persons and refugees. Environmental problems exacerbate the scale of the crisis, which requires urgent and long-term solutions.
The participants paid special attention to attracting financial resources for the implementation of projects aimed at improving the living conditions of affected communities, restoring infrastructure, and increasing access to healthcare and education.
Participants expressed their readiness to support these initiatives actively, joining efforts to create a safe and stable future for the region’s population.
