WNAM REPORT: Japan’s Jateko hopes to increase its import of flaxseed oil from Kazakhstan to 3,000 tons to meet the country’s increasing demand, as per reports citing the Kazakh Trade and Integration Ministry.
Japan is experiencing the growing demand for Kazakh flaxseed oil hailing its high quality and health-boosting properties, according to Jateko’s director Anton Kim.
Flaxseed oil from Kazakhstan is earning customer trust in Japan, as more and more Japanese add it to their regular diet. The country seeks to increase its import of flaxseed oil from Kazakhstan to 3,000 tons per year to meet its demand of 10,000 tons. Japan also hopes to consider the possibility of expanding supplies of safflower and cottonseed oils from Kazakhstan.
The meeting between Kazakh First Vice Minister of Trade and Integration Aizhan Bizhanova and the representatives of Japan’s Jateko focused on logistics issues. Bizhanova suggested holding working meetings with Kazakhstan’s Transport Ministry and national railway company KTZ to optimize transport routes and reduce wait time for Japanese partners.
In the first 9 months of 2024, Kazakhstan observed the significant growth in the vegetable oil exports, including the export of 93 tons of oil worth 122,400 US dollars to Japan in January-August this year,
Kazakhstan’s flaxseed and safflower oil trade turnover reached 321.9 million US dollars, with the export accounting for 297.5 million US dollars.
Japan’s Jateko also expressed the intent to increase the import of Kazakh safflower and cottonseed oils to up to 1,000 and 2,500 tons, respectively.
