New York: In response to a letter written by Iranian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir Saeed Iravani, the United Nations Security Council issued a press statement on a terrorist attack in Rask, Sistan and Baluchistan Province, Iran, and categorically condemned the cowardly terrorist attack.
The UNSC emphasized the need for bringing to justice the organizers, culprits and criminals behind the heinous terrorist attack on a police headquarters in southeastern Iran.
The UNSC statement is as follows:
The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the cowardly terrorist attack on the Rask police station in the Sistan and Baluchistan province, Iran on 15 December 2023. The attack was claimed by “Jaish al-Adl” and resulted in the tragic loss of life of 11 Iranian police officers and inflicting critical injuries on 8 others. The members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and they wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured.
The members of the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security. The members of the Security Council underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice. They urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as all other relevant authorities in this regard.
