WNAM MONITORING: Azerbaijan has faced the harshest examples of disinformation, Fuat Oktay, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, said during an international roundtable in Baku themed “The Role of Parliaments in Public Diplomacy: The Example of Azerbaijan and Türkiye.”
Oktay pointed out the increasing importance of social media diplomacy globally, noting that social media has become the primary source of information for many societies.
“Addressing disinformation has become crucial,” Oktay said. “If we fail to manage technological advancements and artificial intelligence, the resulting consequences will be unavoidable. We are united in our fight against global smear campaigns targeting our brotherly Azerbaijan, just as we stand against disinformation aimed at Türkiye.”
He also mentioned a recent resolution in the French parliament concerning the Patriotic War, which falsely accused Azerbaijan of occupying Armenian territories.
“Currently, there is a ‘X panic’ in both the US and European countries. It seems that if we do not combat disinformation, we will not be able to avoid the threats that lie ahead,” Oktay emphasized.
