Members of the provincial assemblies are supposed to do legislation work, including passing new laws where needed or amend the existing ones, where necessary. They have nothing to do with civic affairs like construction of water drains in streets or mohallas. It is none of their business to poke their nose in the municipal affairs for which the institutions of local bodies like municipal corporations, district councils, tehsil counsels exist.
It is in the evidence that every government worth its salt in this country while realizing the significance of local government for solving the civic problems and providing civic amenities to the people at their doorsteps had done nothing to decentralize financial powers to the local bodies.
The MPAs fancy taking active part in district politics as they in their their own wisdom believe that the more their hold is in district level politics the more are chances that they will carry the day at the time of general elections in the country.
If the local government is empowered many of the district level problems can be solved thus sparing the people to run to the far flung Provincial government headquarters to get them redressed.
