WNAM MONITORING: Bangladesh’s anti-corruption commission has filed cases against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family.
The commission has filed three separate cases accusing Hasina, 77, and her family of illegal land acquisition from the Capital Development Authority (Rajuk), the Dhaka Tribune reported Monday.
Those named include Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana and Rehana’s three children – Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby, Azmina Siddiq and Tulip Rizwana Siddiq.
The commission filed another case Sunday against Hasina, her daughter Saima Wazed and 14 others for allegations of misusing power to allocate a plot of land in a sector of the Purbachal Residential Area.
Tulip Siddiq serves as anti-corruption minister in the British government while Saima Wazed is the regional director for the World Health Organization (WHO) South-East Asia Region. Sidiq has claimed no wrongdoing.
According to the commission, Hasina misused her position as the head of government to unlawfully enable the land allocation.
Hasina fled to India on Aug. 5 following a popular uprising against alleged atrocities and oppression during her 15-year reign.
More than 700 people were killed during the student-led uprising that led to the formation of a transitional government, which has asked New Delhi to return the ousted leader. India has maintained silence.
Hasina is facing many cases in Bangladesh, including for alleged genocide and crimes against humanity.
