Jakarta (WNAM MONITORING): Improving the quality of human resources is a priority for the Indonesian government in developing the employment sector, according to Minister of Manpower Yassierli.
He said that quality improvement is key to creating a competitive workforce in the digital era.
“The challenges facing the Indonesian workforce are low education levels and a lack of digital skills,” Yassierli said in a statement issued on Sunday.
He highlighted the low human capital index and digital skills of the Indonesian workforce compared to other ASEAN countries.
To this end, the government is committed to accelerating transformation in the employment sector, including training aligned with global industry demands, such as green jobs, medical technology, and the digital economy.
“Indonesia’s human capital index remains below the ASEAN average. Therefore, we are targeting workforce upskilling and reskilling through collaboration with educational institutions and industry-based training,” Yassierli explained.
He emphasized the need to align workforce skills with digital transformation and the green economy, including improving skills in artificial intelligence, data analytics, and renewable energy.
Furthermore, vocational training programs are a key focus of the government. In 2024, 3,320 training programs were available.
In addition to vocational training, competency certifications aligned with industry needs are being expanded to help the Indonesian workforce compete in the global job market.
Yassierli expressed optimism that with inclusive policies and cross-sectoral collaboration, Indonesia would be able to produce a high-quality workforce to respond to global challenges.
