WNAM REPORT: “Silence Day” has started in Azerbaijan ahead of the municipal elections scheduled for January 29, as sorces inform.
Any election campaigning is prohibited on election day and the day before.
This is specifically provided for in Part 1, Article 75 of the Electoral Code of Azerbaijan.
According to legislation, election campaigning begins 23 days before voting day and ends 24 hours before its start.
In accordance with the “Calendar Plan of main actions and events for preparation and conduct of municipal elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan,” the campaign period began on January 6 and ended on January 28 at 08:00 (GMT+4).
Polling stations for the municipal elections on January 29 will open at 8:00 AM local time, and voting will continue until 7:00 PM. In the elections, 16,096 candidates will compete for membership in 685 municipalities.
