WNAM REPORT: Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono engaged in discussions regarding food and energy security with visiting Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko here on Monday.

According to the Foreign Ministry’s statement, Minister Sugiono highlighted Indonesia’s dedication to fostering cooperation in the areas of food and energy security.

In line with this objective, he expressed his support for the 13th Indonesia-Russia Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, and Technical Cooperation, scheduled in Jakarta in April.

Both ministers explored avenues to enhance bilateral cooperation, including through existing dialogue mechanisms and bilateral economic partnerships.

Minister Sugiono expressed hope that Russia would continue supporting Indonesia’s collaboration with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in developing trade partnerships.

Moreover, he expressed hope for Russia’s support for Indonesia’s national programs and the “Asta Cita” missions.

The Asta Cita comprises eight main missions, including boosting downstreaming and industrialization to increase economic added value, strengthening the national security defense system, and encouraging national independence through self-sufficiency in food, energy, and water resources.

Sugiono also expressed his appreciation for Russia’s endorsement of Indonesia’s full membership in BRICS earlier this year.

Indonesia and Russia have maintained diplomatic relations for 75 years and collaborate in various fields, including trade, investment, energy, and tourism.

Russia had earlier welcomed Indonesia’s inclusion in the BRICS economic bloc, which initially comprised Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

At the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, Indonesia was officially recognized as a BRICS partner country alongside 12 other nations. Other Southeast Asian nations that have joined BRICS as partner countries include Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

This year, Indonesia and Russia celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.
