Jakarta (WNAM MONITORING);  Indonesia aims to attract investment in the sustainable manufacturing industry by participating in World Expo 2025 Osaka in April, an official at the Ministry of Industry said on Thursday.

Director General of Resilience, Regionalization, and International Industrial Access, Tri Supondy, said that the event is expected to serve as a window for the world to witness the potential of Indonesia’s increasingly strong industry amid global challenges.

“World Expo 2025 Osaka will be an important moment to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a major player in the global industrial supply chain,” he said.

Supondy added that Indonesia’s participation in the expo is not merely a promotional event but a strategic step toward attracting high-quality investment in the national industrial sector.

He noted that Indonesia has demonstrated resilience in industrial performance, with investment realization reaching Rp697.5 trillion in 2024, an increase of 23.5 percent compared to 2023.

The largest investment in 2024 was recorded in the basic metal industry (Rp231.1 trillion), followed by the food industry (Rp104.1 trillion), the paper and paper goods industry (Rp77 trillion), the chemical and chemical goods industry (Rp65.8 trillion), and the motor vehicle, trailer, and semi-trailer industry (Rp26.2 trillion).

Meanwhile, labor absorption in the non-oil and gas industrial sector remained relatively high at 19.96 million workers, or 13.79 percent of the total industrial workforce, as of August last year.

To prepare for Indonesia’s participation in the Osaka expo, the government has implemented several industrial policies to attract investment.

These include simplifying licensing through the Online Single Submission (OSS) system, offering tax incentives, and implementing various downstream policies to increase the added value of domestic natural resources.

Supondy stated that Indonesia’s participation in the expo is also expected to open up new opportunities for cooperation, particularly in the electric vehicle, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, automotive, shipping, metal, chemical, and rubber and tire industries.

Japan, one of Indonesia’s key partners in the industrial sector, has shown its commitment to expanding cooperation in technology development and human resources.

Indonesia will also explore partnerships with other countries participating in the Osaka expo, such as the United States, Germany, China, and various European nations.

Through economic and industrial diplomacy, the Indonesian government seeks to expand export markets while attracting more investment into the country.
