Jakarta (WNAM MONITORING):  Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir urged G20 countries to take concrete action and establish a collective strategy in facing global challenges.

“Now is the time to dare to make decisions and show real impact,” Nasir said at the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Friday (February 21), according to his statement.

Nasir emphasized Indonesia’s willingness to play its role in ensuring that G20 remains relevant as a driver of global change.

He encouraged the G20 to become a catalyst for change with measurable and transparent commitments so the group “can become a platform for action, not just a discussion forum.”

Moreover, he continued, the G20 is considered capable of taking a significant role in the world that currently needs courageous leadership and firm decisions.

For this reason, Indonesia views the G20 as needing a sustainable and impactful collective strategy, considering the increasingly complex global developments due to economic turmoil, climate change, and widening social inequality.

“Global challenges cannot be solved with short-term solutions. We need a concrete roadmap that places human welfare, environmental protection and shared prosperity as top priorities,” Nasir stated.

He highlighted the importance of strengthening resilience to global crises, including through a stronger early warning system, investment in resilient infrastructure, and sustainable financing mechanisms for disaster-risk countries.

He also called for real action in strengthening the global supply chain, accelerating digital inclusion as well as building a sustainable green economy.

“No country should be forced to choose between paying debts or ensuring protection for its people,” he said, emphasizing.

Nasir also called for the mobilization of financing to accelerate the energy transition, including through government and private sector cooperation schemes.

“We must ensure that the energy transition does not deepen global inequality, but instead creates opportunities for inclusive growth,” he noted.

In the discussion of G20 performance, a number of delegates proposed simplifying work and encouraging the G20 to be more effective and focused on high priority matters.

In addition, the issue of artificial intelligence (AI), data governance, and innovation in the context of sustainable development were also of concern at the G20 FMM.
