WNAM MONITORING: Turkmenistan plans to introduce the medium-fiber cotton variety “Yolöten-54” in 2025, as reported by the newspaper Turkmenistan on Monday.
This variety was tested at the breeding sites of the Ministry of Agriculture in the Ahal, Mary, and Lebap velayats, where it showed high yield and fiber quality compared to the classic variety.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture’s decree from September 2022, “Yolöten-54” underwent production trials at the Atchapar agricultural association in Yolöten etrap. In 2023, it was compared with the classic variety “Yolöten-39.” The yield of “Yolöten-54” was 45.8 centners per hectare, which is 8.1 centners more than “Yolöten-39.”
In 2024, the varieties were planted again on 10 hectares. The yield of “Yolöten-54” reached 38.1 centners per hectare, while “Yolöten-39” yielded 37 centners. On average, over two years, “Yolöten-54” produced 41.9 centners per hectare, which is 4.6 centners more than the classic variety.
Additionally, the Ministry of Agriculture’s analytical group presented the promising cotton varieties “Yolöten-63” (fine fiber) and “Yolöten-64” (medium fiber) to the Breeding Center for testing starting in 2025.
