WNAM REPORT: Russian and US officials could communicate with each other in the next few days, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told sources.
She made the statement after US President Donald Trump announced earlier on Tuesday that officials from both countries could meet on Tuesday or Wednesday.
“We do not rule out contacts with US representatives within the next few days,” Zakharova said to a question on the subject.
Trump also said he planned to call Russian President Vladimir Putin in the next couple of days to discuss the situation around Ukraine. According to the US president, “it takes two to tango.”
Earlier on Tuesday, US and Ukraine negotiating teams held talks in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A joint statement following the talks said, among other things, that Kiev was ready to enact a 30-day ceasefire and sign a minerals deal with Washington. In return, the US promised to immediately restart providing Ukraine with military assistance and intelligence sharing.
The US team was led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz. Ukraine was represented by Vladimir Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andrey Yermak, Foreign Minister Andrey Sybiga and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
