Tashkent ( WNAM MONITORING) Within the framework of the 150th anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, led by Chairman of the Senate Yusuf Raza Gilani.
At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the Pakistani delegation conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes to the Uzbek leader on behalf of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The steady development of the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Pakistan was acknowledged with satisfaction, reflected in the intensification of bilateral dialogue and the expansion of practical cooperation.
There has been consistent growth in mutual trade, an increase in the number of joint ventures and direct flights, and regular business forums and exhibitions involving leading companies from both countries.
Particular attention during the discussion was given to expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation. The crucial role of legislative bodies was emphasized in ensuring proper oversight of the implementation of the agreements reached during the recent historic high-level visit to Uzbekistan.
The importance of accelerating key projects and programs in trade, economic, investment, and transport sectors was also highlighted, including the implementation of the Trans-Afghan Corridor initiative.
Special attention was devoted to strengthening interregional ties and enhancing humanitarian exchange.
