WNAM MONITORING: On the sidelines of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, received the heads of parliaments from Arab countries.
The meeting was attended by Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives of Bahrain, Hanafy Ali Gebaly, Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives, Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council of Oman, Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the Shura Council of Qatar, and Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Committee at the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates.
Further developing multifaceted relations with countries in the Arab world, including through parliamentary cooperation, were discussed.
The heads of the delegations conveyed the sincere greetings and best wishes of their respective national leaders to the President of Uzbekistan.
It was noted with deep satisfaction that in recent years, the comprehensive partnership between Uzbekistan and the Arab world has been developing dynamically.
Historic high-level visits have been conducted, and active mutual contacts and exchanges continue to be maintained.
Relations with the United Arab Emirates and the State of Qatar have reached the level of strategic partnership, while comprehensive cooperation has been established with Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Broad-based interaction is steadily developing with the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Sultanate of Oman.
The portfolio of investment projects with these countries has exceeded $50 billion. Projects are being implemented in the green energy sector, the chemical industry, agriculture, the IT sector, transportation and logistics, infrastructure, and tourism. Around 500 joint ventures have been established, and the number of direct flights now exceeds 150 per week.
Current issues on the regional agenda were discussed during the meeting, including the resolution of the situation in the Middle East.
The schedule of upcoming high-level events was also reviewed, with particular emphasis on the second summit of the “Central Asia – Gulf Cooperation Council” Dialogue, scheduled to take place in May this year in the city of Samarkand.
