WNAM REPORT:  Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that is expected to provide a foundation for strategic dialogues between their countries.

The agreement document was inked during a bilateral meeting at the Amiri Diwan Palace in Doha, Qatar, on Sunday (April 13), according to a statement received from the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta.

Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani signed the pact, officially called the MoU on Strategic Dialogues between the Governments of Indonesia and Qatar.

The Presidential Secretariat highlighted that this MoU marks a significant milestone in Indonesia-Qatar ties, as it advocates for holding an annual strategic dialogue between their ministers of foreign affairs.

Under the agreement, the Indonesian and Qatari governments will also co-organize a bilateral senior officials’ meeting as a prelude to the ministerial meeting.

Additionally, the MoU puts forward the potential establishment of an ad hoc working group tasked with executing specific cooperation initiatives.

In essence, the bilateral deal was signed in the hopes of intensifying cooperation between Indonesia and Qatar across various sectors, including politics, international and regional issues, defense and security, economy, energy, agriculture, food security, tourism, science and technology, health, sports, youth, and migrant workers’ protection.

Furthermore, the agreement reflects the two nations’ commitment to enhancing their collaboration at multilateral forums, expanding their scope of mutually beneficial partnership, and solidifying their roles in addressing global challenges.

At the Palace, President Prabowo and Emir Al Thani co-chaired a bilateral meeting, which included their delegations, followed by a one-on-one discussion.

The Qatari leader then hosted a state luncheon in honor of his guests at the end of the agenda.

President Prabowo departed for Amman later that day to meet with King Abdullah II of Jordan.
