WNAM MONITORING: The first Ministerial Forum on Sustainable Development of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) will take place in April this year in Turkmenistan’s city of Arkadag. The preparations for this major international event were reported by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Hojamyrat Geldimyradov during a regular government meeting on Friday, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.
The forum will bring together senior officials and representatives of ECO member states, international organizations, diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan, as well as relevant ministries and agencies of the country.
The primary objective of the event is to foster partnerships for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development within the ECO region. Participants will discuss strategies to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), identify key areas of cooperation, and propose the development of a comprehensive regional strategy. A Final Document is expected to be adopted at the conclusion of the forum.
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of strengthening Turkmenistan’s cooperation with ECO and instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to ensure thorough preparation and a high organizational standard for the upcoming forum in Arkadag.
Founded in 1985, the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is a regional body comprising 10 member states: Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Türkiýe, and Uzbekistan. The ECO focuses on enhancing trade, transportation, energy, and tourism, and its headquarters is located in Tehran.
