WNAM MONITORING: Turkmen club Arkadag clinched the 2024–25 AFC Challenge League title after defeating Cambodia’s Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng 2-1 in the final held Saturday at a packed Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh, as reported by the AFC press service.
The decisive goal came in the 112th minute, when forward Altymyrat Annadurdyyev found the net following a swift counterattack initiated by Arzuvguly Sapargulyyev.
In regulation time, the sides traded goals. Defender Mekan Saparov opened the scoring for Arkadag in the 59th minute, but Saret Krea equalized with a header eight minutes from time, sending the match into extra time.
During the added period, both teams played cautiously, but Arkadag made the most of their opportunity. Goalkeeper Guychmyrat Annagulyyev delivered a solid performance, denying Svay Rieng in key moments to preserve the lead.
The victory marks a historic milestone for Arkadag, who captured their first-ever international title. The club becomes the third from Turkmenistan to win an AFC-sanctioned trophy.
