WNAM MONITORING: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Kazakhstan on Wednesday for a working visit to discuss deepening ties in the political, economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
Lavrov will meet Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and will hold talks with Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“The main focus during the meetings will be strengthening the Russian-Kazakh comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance, including in light of upcoming high-level contacts,” according to the statement.
Lavrov’s visit to Astana comes amid a global energy crisis and controversies about deliveries of Kazakh oil to Europe via Russia’s Druzhba oil pipeline, which passes through Ukraine.
Kyiv earlier halted the Druzhba operations, and media reports claim Kazakhstan will not be able to resume deliveries.
