WNAM REPORT: Indonesia and Jordan are exploring strategic cooperation in fertilizer production and agricultural technology to strengthen food security and boost agricultural efficiency in both countries.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Indonesia’s Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, highlighted Jordan’s status as one of the world’s largest producers of fertilizer raw materials, including potash and phosphate—resources with strong potential for use in Indonesia’s fertilizer industry.
To capitalize on this, Sulaiman proposed the joint establishment of a fertilizer company that would supply not only both nations but also other Southeast Asian and Asian markets.
“We offered to establish a company together. This is the big idea,” he said following a meeting with the Jordanian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sudqi Atallah Al Omoush.
The collaboration is expected to significantly reduce fertilizer costs, as Indonesia has high demand while Jordan has abundant raw material supplies.
The two countries are also exploring cooperation in irrigation and water management systems, modeled on Jordan’s successful and efficient agricultural practices. Indonesia plans to adopt similar approaches to support the development of modern agriculture in several regions.
Discussions also include the use of drone technology for applying fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides—especially in swampy areas where conventional farming tools are ineffective. Drones have shown promise for improving precision and efficiency in such environments.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture noted that pilot projects for this technology will be launched in modern agricultural clusters in Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and South Sumatra.
As a first step, both countries have agreed to form a joint working group to design and implement the strategic cooperation in a detailed and measurable manner.
