WNAM MONITORING: Israel released several Palestinian detainees late Thursday who had been arrested during its ongoing genocidal war on the Gaza Strip after months of imprisonment marked by starvation and torture.
In a statement, the Prisoners’ Information Office affiliated with the Palestinian group Hamas said a number of released detainees arrived via the Kusefim checkpoint and were transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza.
The office did not provide further details regarding the total number of released detainees or their medical conditions.
However, such detainees typically return to Gaza in deteriorated health, with some bearing injuries sustained as a result of severe torture in Israeli detention facilities.
From time to time, Israel releases groups of Palestinians it has detained since the start of its genocidal war.
On April 17, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society said that Israel had arrested thousands of citizens from Gaza under strict secrecy since Oct. 7, 2023.
The group added in its statement that the detainees were being held in “harsh and terrifying conditions intended to inflict maximum harm.”
Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing over 53,700 Palestinians, most of them women and children.
The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
